The Tobin Center has transformed performing arts in San Antonio delivering a world-class venue and world-class performances for everyone. The Tobin strives to excite all ages, cultures, lifestyle and income levels with performances by many different artists and performers.
The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts’ mission is to provide a world-class venue that promotes a diverse range of cultural, educational and artistic experiences that improve the quality of life in San Antonio.
The Tobin Center is a new facility that incorporates the front façade of the historic San Antonio Municipal Auditorium. Construction began in the summer of 2011 and was completed September of 2014.
The facility is comprised of three venues:
- A 1759 reserved seat or 2100 general admission capacity performance space with hall acoustics adjustable for both acoustic and amplified music presentations. The main floor is convertible from traditional theatrical seating to a flat floor capable of seating 600 or more for a banquet or cabaret style concert seating.
- A 250 seat studio theater with numerous flexible seating arrangements.
- An exterior venue along San Antonio’s famous River Walk that is utilized in many different ways including: free movie nights, farmer’s markets, fitness on the plaza, concerts, and more.
Along with key executives, this position is pivotal in The Tobin Center’s continued development into a multi-faceted and community engaged entertainment enterprise. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned, “roll-up-your-sleeves” development professional. This position manages all aspects of securing funds from donors, sponsors, corporations and government entities for ongoing operating and capital needs and designated special projects. The Vice President of Development works with a departmental staff of 2 including the Director of Development. With this team, it is this position’s responsibility to identify, cultivate and solicit donors and prospective donors and sponsors with the goal of increasing the number of donors and sponsors on a consistent and repeatable basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Proactively sets direction, prepares and implements a plan for creating and expanding annual fundraising and sponsorship
- Leads the preparation of fund-raising annual goals, objectives, and strategies to identify donors, prospects and subscribers.
- Aggressively fundraises to attain annual revenue goals for operating, capital, special projects and education
- Prepares grants (with assistance of staff) and final reports for foundation, corporate, and government funders.
- Develops meaningful relationships with current and prospective major donors and sponsors.
- Develops and implements retention strategies to upgrade donors. Recognize disinterested donors and devise strategies to redirect their
- Participates in execution of events and programs in support of development activities. Engage key volunteers and effectively utilize events and other activities to move solicitations
- Schedules opportunities for key staff members to meet with potential donors and sponsors.
- Conducts prospect research as needed for potential foundation, corporate, and government funding
- Works to identify and secure corporate sponsorships and
- Crafts sponsorships that creatively and distinctly communicate unique opportunities to targeted
- Introduces The Tobin’s assets and marketing capabilities to the sponsor and demonstrates the branding values of The Tobin to create unique marketing opportunities.
- Structures, prices, successfully negotiates and closes
- Supervises and directs staff schedules and work Responsible for hiring and terminations for the Development staff.
- Leads Development Department’s special events including the annual gala and strategic donor
- Performs other duties as required.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five to ten years of proven experience in direct
- Strong persuasive writing and budgetary
- Analysis, synthesis and clear communication of information through original writing.
- Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from donors, sponsors and corporations and
- Highly motivated self-starter, a hard worker with a high energy level; a “doer” with a willingness to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of development
