Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and the Payroll Specialist, the Benefits & Employee Relations Clerk will be a critical part of the KIPP San Antonio School Support Team (SST) and will be responsible for managing the daily administrative functions of the Human Resources Department for a $25 million non-profit organization.  On the benefits side, the Benefits & Employee Relations Clerk will be  responsible for ensuring that our employees are properly enrolled in their benefits by performing benefits reconciliations and maintaining benefits records. On the employee relations side, the Benefits & Employee Relations Clerk will be responsible for ensuring that our managers are familiar with KIPP San Antonio disciplinary procedures, and that disciplinary issues are handled fairly with respect to organizational precedents. The Benefits & Employee Relations Clerk role is an exciting opportunity for a results-oriented professional to be a part of a growing human resources function and improve the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of a system of high-achieving charter schools.


  • Serves as point of contact for staff questions and issues around benefits and employee relations.

  • Interfaces with staff across all KIPP San Antonio campuses to collect required paperwork for personnel files.

  • Updates personnel records with benefits updates, and service records.

  • Submits monthly benefit invoices for payment and assists in monthly bill reconciliation.

  • Troubleshoots benefits enrollment issues by managing our HRIS (ADP) and benefits vendors (Guardian, Aetna).

  • Coordinates annual HR Open Enrollment initiative and trainings across all campuses.

  • Submits monthly internal reports and updates staff tracking mechanisms.

  • Prepares and submits annual ACA and other benefits-related reported.

  • Provides managers with guidance around KIPP San Antonio disciplinary procedures.

  • Prepares, collects, and maintains employee disciplinary documentation.

  • Attends employee disciplinary meetings as necessary.

  • Assists the Director of HR, Payroll Specialist, and HR Clerks with other duties as assigned.

  • Proactively identifies areas for improvement in HR processes and information management.

  • Participate in weekly HR Team meetings , monthly District-wide meetings, and other project-related meetings as necessary.

Candidate Requirements:

Candidates will have the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred

  • A minimum of 1 year of related non-profit or for-profit management experience in HR

  • Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic environment

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential

  • Passionate commitment to KIPP San Antonio’s mission and to high standards of excellence

  • Unwavering integrity and the ability to maintain and manage confidential information

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop productive working relationships with diverse stakeholders across functional and organizational lines

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), interpret policy and procedures, maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling, some heavy lifting. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.


Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. The salary range for the Benefits Clerk position is $14-16/hr. This role is scheduled for 40 hours per week. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
