The Donations Specialist/Drive wil: pick-up and deliver furniture, clothing and miscellaneous items to and from SAMMExpress, SAMMinistries’ Donation Station; assist in maintaining a neat, organized environment; assist with inventorying donated items, train and oversee On-the-Job-Trainees and volunteers; work closely with donors in communicating the mission of SAMMinistries; and maintain a professional appearance.
I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Drive truck and/or van to pick-up and deliver donations throughout San Antonio in a safe, professional manner, observing all laws and maintaining a safe driving record.
b. Load, unload and transport inventory, taking precautions not to damage any item or surroundings, and observing personal safety guidelines, including safe lifting of significant weights.
c. Keep vehicles cleaned and well maintained.
d. Keep the SAMMExpress Donation Station clean and neat and provide front-office coverage as needed.
e. Provide direction to On-the-Job-Trainees and volunteers.
f. Effectively utilize Microsoft Outlook to communicate via email and schedule appointments on the calendar, Microsoft Excel and Access to perform basic data input.
g. Work with the donors, clients, case managers and staff on donation intake and distribution.
h. Accurately track items provided to clients through move-outs in HMIS as needed.
i. Support donor relations by providing pleasant donor experiences.
j. Identify donors to be stewarded and/or cultivated by the Mission Advancement Manager.
k. Be familiar with the policies and procedures guiding the work of this position, the department, and the organization overall. Perform job functions in line with these policies and procedures.
l. Keep appropriate records in accordance with policies and procedures.
m. Complete duties in a courteous, professional, customer-friendly manner.
II. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
a. Communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
b. Develop goals, priorities and timelines on a regular basis, ensuring timely and efficient management and completion of all related tasks.
c. Communicate and coordinate priorities, progress, workload, and challenges to the Mission Advancement Manager on a regular basis.
d. Understand and communicate the mission of SAMMinistries and the support that donors provide.
e. Attend staff meetings and participate in organization-wide planning activities.
f. Handle other tasks as assigned by the Mission Advancement Manager, Chief Development Officer, or President and CEO.
g. Undertake all activities with the highest ethical standards.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; excellent customer service skills; and ability to discuss in-kind gifts and SAMMinistries with donors; strong interpersonal, problem solving, and decision-making skills; ability to follow directions, read maps, inventory, and follow policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: It is imperative that the person in this position possess a high level of energy, interpersonal communication and donor relations skills; basic computer skills; ability to read and write and effectively interface with donors.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Candidate must have a valid Texas Driver’s License of a Class C or higher, a good driving record, reliable transportation and proper insurance coverage on automobile use for work. Monthly mileage reimbursed for applicable and documented work related mileage.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to operate a computer, copier, fax machine, and a telephone with intercom. Ability to work in Microsoft Windows XP and Office Suite applications; a willingness to learn new programs and applications is essential; ability to follow instructions, think conceptually, set priorities and interface effectively with staff; ability to coordinate work requirements and to handle several projects simultaneously; ability to work conscientiously without supervision; must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to maintain strict confidentiality and interact well with all constituencies; ability to work independently but also be flexible in providing assistance to the “team” as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to drive safely for long periods of time; lift and/or move significant weight; and safely navigate stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Workload may dictate work hours in excess of 40 hours per week and during evenings and weekends. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
This position requires frequent travel to and from SAMMExpress and donation pick-up points. Employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. This position requires on-site face to face contact with employees, donors and other SAMMinistries constituents.
