Reporting to the Associate Director, No Kid Hungry Campaign, the Director, No Kid Hungry Texas will be responsible for leading the strategy, planning, implementation and evaluation of our No Kid Hungry campaign at the state and local level in Texas. The Director will also be responsible for building collaborative and effective relationships with state local partners and stakeholders, directing the work of one staff member and up to four regional contractors, and partnering with Share Our Strength’s development team to raise the funds to support the campaign as necessary.





  • Lead the development and implementation of a multi-year strategic plan to achieve No Kid Hungry Texas goals in expanding access to and participation in federal food and nutrition programs (specifically school breakfast, summer and afterschool meals) and develop sustainability strategies to ensure growth is maintained throughout the state.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the Texas No Kid Hungry campaign, including goal setting, planning, evaluation, budget allocations, and quarterly progress reports.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with state and local partners, community leaders, and key decision makers in public, social, and private sectors to advance campaign goals in Texas.
  • Work with partners to establish and evaluate goals, strategies, program plans and progress; recommend support levels for grants to partners to accomplish goals.
  • Manage staff and partner implementation of the campaign, as well as advocacy efforts to increase political support for food and nutrition programs, and establish a culture within the team focused on accountability, achieving goals, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Partner with the Communications and Development teams to build and maintain Share Our Strength presence and brand in Texas; communicate campaign impact internally and externally; and represent Share Our Strength at events, to donors and other stakeholders, participating in cultivation and stewardship meetings as needed.
  • Leverage organizational assets to maximize impact of No Kid Hungry Texas campaign, including Center for Best Practices, Culinary, Innovation, Communications, Advocacy and National Partnerships teams.
  • Collaborate with Development team to support fundraising for the campaign, including assisting in developing proposals, approving campaign-related language and working with partners to get their approval on restricted fundraising efforts in their geographies.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the political and social landscape in Texas, anticipating issues and trends that can impact the campaign, and adjust strategies and tactics as needed.
  • Collaborate with schools and community-based and grassroots organizations to assess their needs in delivering child food and nutrition programs; identify strategies that can assist them in expanding and sustaining their programs.
  • Support the Program Team by leading interdepartmental projects as needed.
  • Represent Share Our Strength in the Texas community to increase recognition and influence of the No Kid Hungry campaign in the areas of child hunger, nutrition, food education, food systems, food and nutrition program access, and evaluation.
  • Support the national Share Our Strength leadership team in preparing presentations and progress reports for campaign stakeholders both internally and externally, including high-level donors, Board of Directors, and media targets.
  • Up to 40% travel.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.




  • Bachelor’s degree required with 8-10 years’ previous work experience, including grassroots organizing, advocacy, public policy, community development and/or program management.
  • Experience leading, developing and motivating staff.
  • Extensive knowledge of the state of Texas, including partners, policies and programs.
  • Successful track record managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in operations with strong process-oriented organization skills.
  • Successful budget management experience.
  • Demonstrable experience developing and managing effective partnerships.
  • Proven relationship-building skills and ability to identify and work through challenges.
  • Experience working with state and local government officials, state agency staff, businesses and community based organizations.
  • Outstanding communications skills in presenting, speaking, and writing.
  • Successful track record of achieving results through persuasion and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must be flexible and highly organized.
  • Demonstrated passion for our work.
  • Background in hunger and child nutrition programs a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must be willing to travel throughout the state.
  • Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
