San Antonio’s Shining Moment – considered the best NCAA Final Four ever!

San Antonio Sports
Based upon what the national media, NCAA committee members and staff, the participating schools and fans have said, the 2018 NCAA® Men’s Final Four® in San Antonio is being considered one of the best in the history of the event. Since San Antonio won the bid in 2014, the San Antonio Local Organizing Committee (SALOC) has worked tirelessly on the multitude of events, operations and tasks required to host an event of this magnitude. And it went beautifully–from public safety to transportation, from Music Fest and Fan Fest to community programs, from stadium operations to stadium décor, and so much more. Under the leadership of SALOC Executive Director Jenny Carnes and SALOC Managing Director Elena Wells, SALOC’s staff plus San Antonio Sports’ staff, as well as representatives from Visit San Antonio, City of San Antonio and UTSA contributed to this effort. All of us are indebted to SALOC Chairman Pat Frost for his continued support throughout the bid effort and event. And a shout out to the 2,500 volunteers who cemented their reputation as the friendliest, most knowledgeable volunteer corps in the country.

The direct spending from the estimated 93,000 visitors is projected to be more than $185 million, and millions more from media exposure. More than 145,000 locals and visitors enjoyed three days of the March Madness Music Fest featuring free concerts from Jason Aldean, Imagine Dragons, One Republic and Maroon 5. The Final Four Fan Fest presented by Capital One was host to over 50,000 kids, young and old, as they experienced hundreds of interactive activities in the H.B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Efforts are well underway as we bid to host the 2025 or 2026 NCAA Men’s Final Four and the 2021 Women’s Final Four. We all look forward to bringing one of the world’s top sporting events back to San Antonio!
