Dr. Ronald Calgaard

Ronald K. Calgaard, born in 1937, began his professional career in 1963 as a professor of economics at the University of Kansas. In 1973, he was appointed Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University. From July 1979 through June 1999, Dr. Calgaard served as President of Trinity University; the longest sitting president in the history of the university. During his tenure as president, Trinity achieved national recognition for excellence in liberal arts and sciences education. After retiring from Trinity University in 1999, Dr. Calgaard was appointed President Emeritus of the University, and became Chairman of the Board of The Trust Company.

Dr. Calgaard joined Austin, Calvert & Flavin, Inc. in March 2000 and was appointed Chairman in December 2001, and served as Chief Executive Officer since October 2003. He retired from Austin Calvert & Flavin in early 2006.

Dr. Calgaard is a graduate of Luther College (Iowa) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He received his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in economics from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Calgaard currently serves on various corporate and civic boards, including Valero Energy Corporation, The Trust Company, St. Mary’s Hall, Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, Cancer Therapy and Research Center, San Antonio Museum of Art, United Way of Bexar County, and Luther College.

Dr. Calgaard and his wife Gene have two married children, Lisa and Peter Sands and Kent and Francie Calgaard, and are the proud parents of two grandchildren Kathleen and Eliot. They are members of the First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio where he serves as an elder.
