Job Description

Trinity University’s Alumni Relations and Development Division is seeking to fill the position of Associate Director for Alumni Relations. 

Possessing a thorough knowledge of best practices in the world of alumni relations, you have the ability to strategically plan, execute and assess engagement and outreach programming for diverse audiences. You will also collaboratively interface with the other four Alumni Relations & Development departments – major & planned gifts, annual giving, special events and advancement services and with other leadership units across campus to develop winning strategies and approaches.

Why This Position?

Nearing a 150th anniversary, the Trinity tradition of exceptionally loyal alumni, donors and friends continues today. These multiple generations require varied marketing and communications approaches. This new position is envisioned as key to enhance effective/frequent communications and develop/improve gift strategies for Trinity University’s donors and alumni across all age groups. As Trinity University enters the beginning stages of preparing for a comprehensive capital campaign, customized communications are essential to inform, engage and encourage participation. 

Trinity’s Alumni Relations and Development Division (AR&D)

The position reports to the Sr. Director for Alumni Relations and will be considered a key member of the Alumni Relations team. This position will work cooperatively with the senior leadership across the five departments within the Alumni Relations and Development Division.

  • Enjoy planning, developing project timeframes and assessing success/lessons-learned for future projects.
  • Unquestioned personal integrity, credibility, maturity and work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development and execution of annual assessments and operating plans for the efficient and effective delivery of alumni programming, events, volunteer involvement, communication and budgeting.
  • Shares in staff leadership to support the development of regional alumni chapters in designated areas
  • Identifies and recruits appropriate chapter leadership and provides staff support to ensure effective planning and implementation of alumni programs that are consistent with the goals of Alumni Relations and the chapter
  • Manages, plans, and markets all aspects of alumni events in assigned chapters, network cities, and other locations
  • Plans and coordinates faculty lectures and visits to assigned chapter and network cities
  • Assists with planning and coordination of assigned class reunions
  • Assists in maintaining alumni chapter-related web pages, including event calendar
  • Fosters an environment of continuous experimentation, testing, learning and benchmarking to optimize quality and effectiveness.
  • Assists in the creation of a long term vision for alumni relations based on industry best practices.
  • Assists in writing/compiling summaries of assigned chapter events for Trinity Magazine
  • Spearheads new initiatives to meet the contemporary needs of alumni and to facilitate lasting relationships throughout all alumni decades.
  • Works closely and frequently with AR&D team members to ensure proper alignment with broader university philosophies and priorities.
  • Maintains timelines to ensure smooth flow of projects through the Department and allows for special projects, pre-work, and rush assignments.
  • Sits on assigned Alumni Association Board committees and working groups
  • Updates alumni records in Colleague as needed
  • Serves on university committees as needed
  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in alumni relations or alumni management work.
  • Strong understanding of practices to obtain best results from industry organizations and university peers.
  • Ability to work non-traditional business hours and weekends. Travel as required.  

Preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, evaluate results, and optimize events and outreach programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteer groups
  • Superior communications skills including both speaking and writing.
  • Experience with alumni/donor communications and nonprofit fundraising campaigns.
  • High level of creativity and flexibility and demonstrated desire to stay abreast of best practices.

Benefits/Compensation

The compensation and benefits for this position will be based upon the successful candidate’s education, skills, experience, and potential for contribution toward the success of the mission of Trinity University.  Salary is competitive and benefits include flexible spending accounts for dependent care and medical care reimbursement. After four years of full-time, contract employment, University employees are eligible for tuition exchange for dependent children.
