Operations Manager

Founded in 1983, Blackland Community Development Corporation (BCDC) owns and manages 49 units of affordable housing in the Blackland neighborhood, a historically African-American community in east Austin, Texas. BCDC owns approximately 1/4 of Blackland’s housing stock, housing approximately 1/3 of the neighborhood’s residents.

BCDC’s mission is to foster a safe, inclusive, and equitable community by 1) preserving and expanding high quality affordable housing; 2) facilitating community engagement projects and activities that bring neighbors together; and 3) providing supportive service programs that improve access to integrated health, social engagement, and financial stability for all residents of the Blackland community.

BCDC is seeking applicants to fill its Operations Manager position. This position offers competitive compensation ($40,000+ depending on experience/education), and a great work environment. BCDC is a small nonprofit, so all staff take various roles at different times. However, the Operations Manager reports to the CEO and will primarily be responsible for:

1. Acting as agency lead in the CEO’s absence;

2. Supervising 4 part-time staff (Accounts Admin., Compliance/Property Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Housing Navigator);

3. Working with CEO and Board Members in the planning of new construction and rehabilitation projects;

4. Working as Project Manager of some rehabilitation projects;

5. Contributing substantially to the development of agency operations budget;

6. Working closely with CFO/Accountant & Board Treasurer to ensure compliance with BCDC Procurement and Financial Management Policies; and

7. Collaborating with the CEO, Grant Writer, and community partners on securing funding to build organizational capacity.

Successful candidates must have:

1. A college degree with significant coursework in Planning, Administration, and/or Nonprofit Management; and

2. At least 2 years of experience working (paid or volunteer) in a nonprofit setting.

Ideal Candidates will have experience in, and/or familiarity with, one or more of the following areas:

1. Property Management

2. City/State/Federal Housing Programs

3. Grant Writing

4. Construction Project Management
