Thrill-Seekers to Go ‘Over the Edge’ of Bank Tower at Oak Cliff

Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) is offering thrill-seekers a chance to experience an adrenaline rush of a lifetime. Those who dare, will go Over the Edge of The Bank Tower at Oak Cliff building on Saturday, Nov. 7. Honorary Co-Chairs, including Irving Police Chief Larry BoydIrving Assistant Fire Chief Rusty Wilson and KISS-FM 106.3 personality Big Al Mack are among the many that will support more than 6,900 SOTX athletes in the Greater Dallas area by rappelling down the 15-story hotel structure at the sixth annual event. 

 

Rappels are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Spots are limited, so register here to go Over the Edge!

 

Over the Edge (OTE) involves participants raising a minimum of $1,200 to rappel in front of an awe-struck crowd of supporters. OTE is also being held in downtown Houston this year at the 20-story Embassy Suites Hotel in on Nov. 14, allowing thrill-seekers to take on the Dual-City Challenge. Incentives are offered to those who raise more than the minimum amount required to rappel. (See below for details.)

 

Companies, organizations, schools and agencies are encouraged to “send the boss, police chief, principal or coach” Over the Edge by raising funds from employees or members. 

 

No previous rappelling experience is required. Participants should be 18 years or older by the day of the event, and weigh between 110 to 300 lbs.

About the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR)

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.  In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation.  In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX.  The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 53,400 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
