Texas Renaissance Festival sets attendance record with 41st season opening
Texas Renaissance Festival

October, 2015

Voted the “2015 Best Cultural Festival” by USA Today and 10Best, the Texas Renaissance Festival is living up to its tradition of bringingfood, fun and interactive 16th century magic to hundreds of thousands of patrons. The much-anticipated season opening saw record-breaking attendance this Saturday and Sunday with Oktoberfest weekend.

“Our Oktoberfest weekend welcomed nearly 60,000 patrons, which is a record-breaking attendance number for the festival’s opening weekend, and sets the stage for what we expect to be another unforgettable season,” Texas Renaissance Festival General Manager Terre Albert, says.

The Nation’s largest and most acclaimed Renaissance theme park goes on through November 29, 2015 with seven more exciting themed weekends including 1001 Dreams (Oct. 17 & 18), All Hallows’ Eve, Pirate Adventure, Roman Bacchanal, Barbarian Invasion, Highland Fling, and Celtic Christmas. Kids ages 12 and under get in free every Sunday.

For the first time, organizers present TRF After Dark, a costume gala for guests 21 and older, where all the fun and fantasy of the Texas Renaissance Festival continues long after sunset. Each evening is tied to the themes of the Texas Renaissance Festival, and includes music and dancing, live entertainment, themed contests, drinks, food and more, every Friday from 8 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Texas Renaissance Festival will also welcome special guest, actress Patricia Quinn, known for her role as Magenta in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. In partnership with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, TRF After Dark will host a special interactive presentation of the cult classic on Friday, October 30 and Saturday October 31. Quinn will sign autographs at the festival and at TRF After Dark. For a full schedule of themed TRF After Dark events and to purchase tickets, visit http://texrenfest.com/afterdark/.

Popular for its turkey legs, mead and jousting, Texas Renaissance Festival also offers patrons access to the largest number of artisans and merchants of any Renaissance themed event.

“With 515 shoppes located inside The New Market Village, we continue to attract some of the most talented artisans and merchants from around the country and bring them together for eight weekends every fall,” Albert says.

Shoppes offering handmade items such as beeswax candles and soap, armoury, clothing, art, jewelry and more can be found nestled between areas that bustle with the energy of an Italian Village, a German Beer Garden and the new Florence Market. Blacksmiths, glassblowers, hawkers, fairies, pirate kings and beer maidens stay true to character, bringing to life the spirit of the Texas Renaissance Festival.

Also recognized this year as a favorite wedding site for couples, Texas Renaissance Festival expects a record number of 53 wedding ceremonies to take place on festival grounds this season, with a Mass Vow Renewal slated for Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. Interested couples can get more information by calling 1-800-458-3435 or email weddings@texrenfest.com.

After an exciting day feasting on the finest foods fit for a king, interacting with some of the festival’s entertaining and noble characters and wandering through hundreds of shoppes selling unique crafts and treasures, guests can continue their festival experience at the Fields of New Market Campgrounds.

Conveniently nestled next to Festival grounds, the newly renovated, 200-acre campground welcomes RVs, trailers and traditional tent campers. Organizers have updated restrooms and added two renovated camp stores, the Dragon-Inn and the Drag-on Buy. The Drag-On Inn, the larger of the two convenience stores, will offer an array of items for those camping overnight including snacks, beverages, a camping gear station and even health and beauty supplies. The campgrounds will also feature three ticket kiosk booths located throughout the site so that campers can avoid the ticket lines at the festivals entrance.  Another major addition to the campgrounds this year is around-the-clock security. In addition to the main campground, the Fields of New Market Campground features a Quiet Camping area where families and patrons can relax and enjoy a peaceful evening after a non-stop day of festival merriment.
