About the Conference

 

 

 

 

The Conference is designed to offer quality training and information on topics and model programs of interest to leaders in child abuse prevention: social workers, counselors, educators, child care and youth workers, law enforcement personnel, medical & legal professionals, foster parents, child welfare board volunteers, elected officials, and other interested child advocates. Participants may attend their choice of a variety of workshops on child abuse and neglect prevention and educational programs or may select workshops for specialized training credits and professional development.

 Angelo P. Giardino, MD, PhD, MPH

 

 

 

 

Angelo P. Giardino, a Professor of Pediatrics and Section Chief of Academic General Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), received his medical degree and doctorate in education from the University of Pennsylvania, completed his residency and fellowship training at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and currently serves as Vice President/Chief Medical Officer for Texas Children's Health Plan and is the Chief Quality Officer for Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital. He earned a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Massachusetts, and is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) within the American College of Physician Executives. He completed the Patient Safety Certificate Program from the Quality Colloquium, is certified in medical quality (CMQ) as designated by the American Board of Medical Quality. Dr. Giardino is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), sub-boarded in Child Abuse Pediatrics by the America n Board of Pediatrics. He is a Board member for several national and regional boards.  His academic accomplishments include publishing several textbooks on child abuse and neglect, presenting on a variety of pediatric topics at national and regional conferences.  He is also co-editor of the C@R Journal of Applied Research on Children, Informing Policy for Children at Risk.    

 

 

 

Harvey Karp, MD

 

 

 

 

Dr. Karp is a nationally renowned pediatrician, child development specialist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine. In pediatric practice, for almost 30 years, Dr. Karp has taught thousands of parents, from working moms to superstars like Madonna his evidence-based approach to soothe infant crying, boost sleep, and his novel techniques to reduce tantrums.  His DVDs/book, “The Happiest Baby” and "The Happiest Toddler" are among the most used parenting guides in America. Over 3,000 Happiest Baby educators have been certified to teach this approach to boost parent confidence and reduce child abuse, postpartum depression and infant sleep deaths across Texas, throughout the US and in 25 other nations. 

 

 

 

Christopher S. Greeley, MD

 

 

 

 

Christopher Spencer Greeley, was received his undergraduate degree from Hobart College in Geneva New York where he majored in Biology and Religious Studies. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia in 1992 and complete internship and residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt University. He spent three years in private pediatric practice in Franklin Tennessee before returning to Vanderbilt University in the Division of General Pediatrics in 1998. He is board certified in pediatrics as well as Child Abuse Pediatrics, and is a member of the AMA and the AAP. He is a member of the AAP Section on Child Abuse and Neglect and Section on International Child Health. His main clinical interests are in International Child Health, Child Abuse and Neglect, and vulnerable populations.

 

 

 

James M. Hmurovich, B.A., MS.Ed.

 

 

 

Jim is the President & CEO of Prevent Child Abuse America, a position he has held for over 8 years. His organizational focus has been to increase not only public awareness of the importance to prevent child abuse and neglect, but to actively engage the public in changing the way in which the United States invests in meaningful healthy child development policies and practices.  He has had an extensive career in juvenile and criminal justice, having served as a county juvenile probation officer as well as numerous positions within the Indiana State Department of Correction, eventually being appointed Deputy Commissioner. 

 

 

Jenna Quinn

 

 

 

Jenna Quinn has been an activist for 11 years going back to the age of 17 when she was approached by the Dallas Morning News about featuring her story. This was paramount in her decision to speak out as a victor and not a victim. Her story sparked an array of news and media opportunities for her to speak out about child sexual abuse issues. A poised and charismatic speaker with a Masters Degree in Communications, Jenna has traveled the country making speeches to law-enforcement and abuse-prevention groups. She has moved into political action reaching out to Texas legislators about the need for schools to adopt age-appropriate curriculum on child sexual abuse. Republican Representative Tan Parker championed what is now known as “Jenna’s Law” in August 2009, which passed the state senate unanimously. Moreover, in June 2011, “Jenna’s Law” was expanded to incorporate child care centers, foster care centers, and child placing a gencies. Jenna is 27 years old, happily married, and speaking to audiences all across the country about sexual abuse prevention. She has a desire to see struggling individuals reach their full potential in Christ, and live a life of peace and wholeness.
