Bexar County Games
The first of four 2014 Bexar County Games presented by Ancira youth sports competitions took place last weekend at Mission Concepción Sports Park. Almost 100 basketball teams participated, more than double the number from last year. The energy from six full-courts with squeaking basketball shoes, whistles blowing and cheering relatives and friends was incredibly exciting!

The goal of the Bexar County Games presented by Ancira is to host top notch competitions in Bexar County facilities, which are some of the best venues in Texas. This allows local teams to play teams from around the county, region and from Mexico here in San Antonio instead of traveling to other venues in and outside of Texas.

Two of the remaining Bexar County Games— the Valero Missions Cup Baseball Showcase, July 12-13, and the Bexar County Games Copa Rayados Internacional soccer tournament Nov. 29-30—will have teams from Mexico participating. We hope to grow the international competition opportunities by providing a higher caliber of competition, while at the same time growing sports tourism in San Antonio.

The 2014 Bexar County Games will conclude with a lacrosse tournament also held on Nov. 29-30. Lacrosse is a rapidly growing sport and our goal is to create a "destination" tournament that will attract teams from areas with a mature base for the sport.

The Bexar County Games is just one more way San Antonio Sports is working to transform our community through the power of sport.

The Big Give SA
Tuesday was a BIG day in the San Antonio nonprofit world. The city's first 24-hour celebration of giving – the Big Give SA -- involved 460 area charities! San Antonio Sports was one of those charities. Over $3,800 was raised from 68 donors. And while this was just one day of giving, San Antonio Sports needs your donation to make a difference year-round. San Antonio Sports Receives Three Grants in Support of Its i play! afterschool program

The Najim Family Foundation ($78,750), The Brown Foundation, ($20,000), and the Sundt Foundation ($1,500) are each generously supporting San Antonio Sports i! play afterschool program.

Funds will be used to support program costs for our afterschool activities, including apparel, backpacks, healthy snacks, sports equipment and coaches training.
