Danny Green Films Anti-Bullying Skits with Team Up Challenge Students

Skits to be used in presentations to elementary and middle schools

San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green visited the PALS club at MacArhtur High School to help students film anti-bullying skits for their presentations to local elementary and middle schools in their district.

The students filmed three skits with Green, all focused on students using their voice, standing up to bullies or telling adult when they see bullying occur. The PALS group has presented to several middle and elementary schools, where they already mentor students, and plan to continue presentations throughout next semester.

Learn more about the semi-finalists and scholars at TeamUpChallenge.com. We are also excited to announce that financial literacy for the Team Up Challenge is being provided SACU.

Iceman talks to InspireU students

George Gervin tells his story to Bigs and Littles at AT&T Center

For the second year, Spurs Sports & Entertainment is a part in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters InspireU workplace mentoring program. Currently 21 staff members are paired with eighth grade students from our neighboring Wheatley Middle School. Each month, the pairs share a lunch hour together at the AT&T Center, getting to know one another and building lasting relationships.

George "The Iceman" Gervin took time to talk to the Bigs and Littles about achieving their dreams. Gervin, an NBA Legend, spoke about making deliberate choices, surrounding yourself with positive influences. He put special emphasis on doing well in school, saying that school requires practice and preparation just like basketball.

Healthy Hoopsters

Toros players and Capitol City Dancers visit classrooms to encourage healthy habits

Toros players and Capitol City Dancers visited Knowles Elementary School to host a Healthy Hoopsters pep rally for over 600 students. The pep rally focused on creating healthy habits like eating right, exercising daily and making good decisions.

The Toros have partnered with Goodwill Industries this season to present the program to local schools. Schools have an opportunity to raise funds for their athletic programs based on student completion of the Healthy Hoopsters program which includes a school-wide donation campaign.
