Writers' Community And Mentorship Program (CAMP)
APPLICATIONS DUE
APRIL 24

Writers' CAMP is an alternative, non-credit creative writing program for adults
that addresses the needs of writers too challenged by time and / or financial constraints
to pursue a traditional university degree.

CAMP participants work in small cohorts and, at advanced levels, one-on-one with
professional writers to develop craft, an artistic practice and a writer's sensibility.

Specialize in fiction, poetry or creative nonfiction, or explore all these genres.

Both cash payment and work-exchange options are available to cover tuition.

Spring 2012 Early Bird deadline to apply: April 24, 2012

2012 Mayborn Preparatory Class
With Bill Marvel

3 weeks: Saturdays, May 5, May 19, and June 2 2012

1 - 5 PM

Writers studying their craft at The Writer's Garret continue to score big at the
nationally recognized Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Writers Conference of the University
of North Texas. Many of our writers have received publication through the conference,
even taking the # 1 spot in this highly competitive summer program. This course
will cover strategies for ensuring Mayborn submissions are to a high content, professional,
and competitive standard, as well as how to get the most out of workshop sessions
and the dos and don'ts of pitching manuscript projects to agents at the conference.
Previously prepared work intended for Mayborn submission must be submitted prior
to meeting.

Please note: It is recommended that you have taken "Elements of Creative Writing,"
"Creative Nonfiction I," "Creative Nonfiction II," or an equivalent before enrolling
in this course.

Pre-work required: Please email 20 double-spaced pages MAX of material (an essay,
a chapter or section from a nonfiction work-in-progress, etc.) by 6 PM, Friday,
April 27 2012. Please send your work as an MS Word .doc or RTF attachment to gen@writersgarret.org
[mailto:gen@writersgarret.org].

Veteran journalist and freelance writer BILL MARVEL has been involved with the Mayborn
Literary Non-Fiction Conference as judge and workshop leader from its inception
in 2005. In addition to his work for several newspapers, he has written for D Magazine,
American Heritage, Smithsonian, Horizon, American Way, Southwest Spirit and other
publications. He is co-author, with R.V. Burgin, of Islands of the Damned: A Marine
at War in the Pacific, and author of A Mighty Fine Road: The Rise and Fall of the
Rock Island Railroad. Bill has taught before at The Writer's Garret and at UNT's
Mayborn School of Journalism.
