April 13-14, 2011, La Quinta Inns & Suites – San Antonio Convention Center

Administrator and Parent Educator Pre-Conference Institute - April 13 (8:30am - 4:30pm)
Bilingual Parent Institute: Parents Presenting to Parents - April 14 (9am - 2:30pm)

These two institutes offer families, school district personnel and community groups from across Texas the opportunity to network, get resources and information, and receive training and bilingual materials on IDRA’s nationally-recognized, research-based model for parent leadership in education. Both institutes are highly interactive and participatory. The pre-conference institute presented by IDRA and TEA staff will focus on the latest research and strategies on effective family engagement. The parent institute and exhibits will be conducted bilingually by parent presenters and will include topics, such as early childhood education, literacy, math and science instruction, bilingual education, dropout prevention, high school graduation requirements, college access, technology use and Title I requirements.

Join IDRA for Powerful TEKniques to tackle the TAKS! - One-day institutes in McAllen for high school math and science teachers.
April 15, 2011 - 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
McAllen Convention Center

Participants will learn how to:

  • Engage students in relevant and authentic mathematics.
  • Explore activities that exemplify the blending of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.
  • Develop the key vocabulary for all students.
  • Integrate technology for building and reviewing concepts.
  • Connect math concepts through hands-on activities.
  • Develop mathematically proficient students.

Register today  for IDRA’s Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program Annual Institute in San Antonio. For current Coca-Cola Valued Youth Program sites, there is no registration fee.

This event is designed for current program administrators, teacher coordinators, elementary and secondary principals, elementary receiving teachers, and counselors.

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 – Noon to 5:00 p.m., includes opening luncheon
Thursday, April 14, 2011 – 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Institute Objectives

  • Recognize districts for their commitment to students who are in at risk situations
  • Learn how program administrators support the program
  • Learn to incorporate college mentors
  • Learn how others are including college access and readiness

At the institute you also will be able to…

  • Review the online evaluation system, the Evaluator
  • Share program strengths and even share your best success
  • Review online fellows network and create your account
