25th ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE

Westin Park Central Hotel Dallas

Presented by

Prevent Child Abuse Texas

Featuring

Harvey Karp, MD - Dr. Karp is a nationally renowned pediatrician, child development specialist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine. In pediatric practice, for almost 30 years, Dr. Karp has taught thousands of parents, from working moms to superstars like Madonna, Michelle Pfeiffer and Pierce Brosnan his secrets for soothing colic, boosting infant sleep, reducing tantrums, promoting patience and _making parents and children happy.  He is the author of _The Happiest Baby on the Block_.

George W. Holden, PhD - Dr. Holden focuses on understanding the determinants and significance of the parent-child relationship in development. Much of the work conducted has addressed the proximate causes of parental behavior with an emphasis on parental social cognition. He has investigated parental attitudes and thinking as it relates to parental use of physical punishment. A second area of research concerns the causes and effects of family violence, including how intimate partner violence affects parenting and children's development.  He is the author of the book _Parenting: A dynamic perspective_.

Jenna Quinn - Jenna is a triumphant survivor of sexual abuse. No, more than mere survivor, she has become a valiant warrior against sexual abuse of children and adolescents. A new Texas law bears her name, Jenna_s Law. Finally telling her secret brought such sweet relief that she has been on a campaign ever since to spare others her torment. The first step in that campaign was telling her story, just a few days after her molester was sentenced to 20 years in prison. "I'm not scared. Don't you be scared," she told other victims at the time.

The Amazing Spiderman - A special appearance by Spiderman will highlight the conference.  Spiderman, a child sexual abuse survivor, will be available throughout the conference for photos and autographs.

The Conference has shown a tremendous increase in attendance over the years making it the largest child abuse prevention conference in the state. Persons including child protective services workers; social workers; counselors/therapists; school personnel; foster parents; medical, and law enforcement professionals; and individuals will make up the realm of those in attendance.
