From secret hideouts to imaginary worlds, Playhouses and Forts offers children of all ages the opportunity for creative play at the San Antonio Botanical Garden
San Antonio Botanical Garden

September, 2010

Summer vacations are over and the kids are back in school. Just as families get used to the new routine, a three-day holiday weekend gives us one more time to play! What to do? Come out to the San Antonio Botanical Garden and see the eight unique designs of the Playhouses and Forts exhibit.

Each playhouse design is different; the designs range from a playhouse inspired by a waterwheel to a contemporary take on the Swiss Family Robinson. The innovative structures were chosen from the 33 entries submitted in a contest held earlier this year. Local designers let their imaginations run wild! Visitors will see everything from contemporary and modern interpretations of a playhouse or fort to whimsical and quirky presentations.

The exhibit is presented by the San Antonio Botanical Society in partnership with the American Institute of Architects San Antonio Chapter and the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.

Sponsors of Playhouses and Forts include Ewing Halsell Foundation, Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation, Gretchen Swanson Family Foundation, The USAA Foundation, AT&T, and The Capital Group Companies, Inc./Home of American Funds.  Media sponsors include the San Antonio Express News, Magic 105.3 FM Radio, KENS 5 TV and Imagine Homes/KSTX 89.1 FM Radio. The San Antonio Public Library is one of the exhibit’s community partners.

Extend the fun! The San Antonio Botanical Garden is a natural gem within city limits and offers low cost entertainment all year.
