OneStar eNews: April 2010

National Volunteer Week is Next Week!

April 18-24, 2010, will be National Volunteer Week—a week dedicated to celebrating volunteers and to recognizing the importance of service. Did you know that nearly 62 million Americans volunteered between September 2007 and September 2008? And here in Texas, 4.1 million Texans volunteered from September 2007 to September 2008. In fact, approximately 23% of all Texans gave about 556.6 million hours of their time toward helping others and strengthening their communities. Volunteers are an essential part of the nonprofit sector, and National Volunteer Week is the perfect opportunity to thank them for their service—and to let others know how much of an impact they can make by giving their time.

If your organization is planning a National Volunteer Week event, check out HandsOn Network’s downloadable toolkit, flyer and logos on their National Volunteer Week Web page.

After your event, you can share your pictures and recap your event on our Facebook page.

Happy National Volunteer Week 2010 to everyone!
