Walk Across Texas® Opening of Bird Watch and Spring Plant Sale
San Antonio Botanical Gardens

February, 2010

San Antonio Botanical Garden

Saturday, April 17

The annual Walk Across Texas® official Fiesta event literally gives visitors a “walk across Texas” right in the heart of San Antonio. The Texas Native Trail winds through an 11-acre native area of the Botanical Garden allowing guests to experience three diverse ecosystems of Texas. Walk Across Texas® activities (8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon) include sampling Pioneer biscuits (compliments of C.H. Guenther & Son), guided garden tours, nature displays and children’s crafts and games.

Bird watching is one of the fastest growing hobbies in America. The Botanical Garden has commissioned a Bird Watch to be built for the public to experience such birds as an Inca dove, red-shouldered hawk and long-billed thrasher - common in the Garden, but difficult to spot elsewhere in the city.  The Bird Watch opens for birding enthusiasts on Saturday, April 17.

Spring Plant Sale - Saturday, April 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Choose from hundreds of plants to beautify your backyard. Expertly cultivated by the San Antonio Botanical Society Plant Team of Volunteers, regional and “water-friendly” plants will be featured.

The San AntonioBotanical Garden is located at 555 Funston at
North New Braunfels Avenue For more information, the public can visit City of San Antonio Department of Parks & Recreation and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. year-round except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
